Abstract
Polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS) is the most common endocrine condition in women of reproductive age, increasing the risk of infertility. It affects an estimated 12-21% of women of reproductive age and involves clinical signs such as oligo or anovulation, hirsutism, acne and polycystic ovaries on ultrasound, Studies consistently reveal a greater frequency of PCOS among overweight and obese women, and up to 30% of indigenous women with a BMI >30 kg/m2 satisfied PCOS diagnostic criteria.
